UWEAL Launches Financial Management and Marketing training for Women Entrepreneurs in Uganda(EADB) - 21st-February 2008.

The East African Development Bank in conjuction with the Nordic Development Fund offered a grant to UWEAL
to under take the training of women entrepreneurs in various areas in Uganda. Areas where the trainings took place include;
Mbarara, Gulu, Mbale and Mpigi.

Women Exporters Awards - 18th-February 2008.
On the 18th February 2008 UWEAL awarded three women exporters who had successfully attended the export training
through the ACCESS! Programme which was jointly sponsored by the International
Trade Centre - Geneva (ITC), the Trade Facilitation Office Canada
(TFOC) and PRO€INVEST.
Pro€Invest is an EU-ACP (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific) partnership program
developed and undertaken by the European Commission
on behalf of the ACP countries.

UWEAL Business Achievers Awards and Fashion Show- December 2007.

The UWEAL Business Achievers Awards were held on Friday 7th December
2007 at Arirang Korean Restaurant Plot 15 Kyadondo. The guest
of honor as seen in the picture on the left was Ms. Markussen Birgitte the
Head of Mission at the Danish Embassy in Uganda,
she is seated with the UWEAL Chairperson Dr. Eve-Kasirye-Alemu.
Like in 2006; the awards were open to the public to nominate the business
achiever of the year 2007. However this time the event was spiced up by
a fashion show sponsored by Stella Atal,
designer and director of Great African Art (Art and Fashion Studio).

South-South-Trade Promotion Program - November 2007.
The International Trade Centre in Geneva launched a project aiming at promoting intra-African trade in the fashion sector for women entrepreneurs. This project aims at strengthening the participation of women in trade by exposing them to new export opportunities, because women's contribution to economic activities has not been fully realized and yet their involvement in income generating activities is a key factor to poverty eradication. The target group for the project is textile manufacturers, dyeing/finishing service providers, printing service providers, apparel fashion manufacturers and jewelry designers and buyers/importers of the final product.

Launch of Uganda Women Entrepreneurs Exchange (UWEEx) July 2007

UWEAL with support of DFCU(through the DFCU Women in Business Programme) organized the UWEEx event. UWEEx will be an annual event which will be geared towards creating awareness among various women entrepreneurs in Uganda as well as creating a platform for networking. The guest of honor was Professor Maggie Kigozi (Executive Director - Uganda Investment Authority) who officially opened and launched the Event. Other guests included; Ms. Susan Nsibirwa the Marketing Manager of DFCU Group, the UWEAL chairperson and Board of Directors, Mr. James Mulwana - chairman of Private Sector Foundation Uganda and other stakeholders.

Annual Business Achievers Awards 2006

In order to promote and recognize women's contribution to the economy and to motivate and inspire women to choose business as a way to make a living; UWEAL initiated the "UWEAL Annual Business Achievers Awards" ceremony which is scheduled for November each year. UWEAL has been recognizing her members since the year 2000 and has awarded over 15 women entrepreneurs. This is a mandatory annual event whose purpose is to create awareness about women entrepreneurship in Uganda.

Month of Women Entrepreneurs (MOWE)

This is a major annual event implemented by the Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE) under the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Irish Aid Partnership Programme through selected Programme Partners namely; National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU), National Union of Women with Disabilities of Uganda (NUWODU), Uganda Small Scale Industries' Association (USSIA) , Uganda Women Entrepreneurs' Association Limited (UWEAL), The Aids Support Organization (TASO), National Union of Trade Unions (NOTU) and Association of Micro Finance Institutions in Uganda (AMFIU)
